The CWTAP Student Institute is a collaboration of the Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program at the UW School of Social Work, UW Tacoma Social Work Program, Eastern Washington University School of Social Work and the state’s Department of Children, Youth & Familes.

The Institute's goal is to provide students with opportunities to make presentations on topics that directly relate to DCYF mission and the importance of public child welfare. Since its inception in 1997, the Institute has provided a student-driven educational and networking forum.

CWTAP students share their professional expertise with their fellow MSW students in an atmosphere of mutual learning and peer education. Students meet and form professional relationships with their peers: relationships that often last throughout their social work careers.

The Institute also offers opportunities for collaboration with highly trained public child welfare social workers, including social work leaders and innovators. Institute participants represent the best-of-the-best and many go on to become the public face of child welfare excellence.
