Allison N. Kristman-Valente

Anticipated Graduation: June 2014Allison N. Kristman-Valente

Professional and research interests: Allison is interested in the prevention and intervention of substance use among women. Her course of study is focused on two main areas: exploring the role of gender in the etiological relationship of substance use and trauma across the life course and the implementation of women specific prevention and intervention services. Currently, her dissertation research uses a life-course framework to investigate how smoking behaviors coincide with experiences of interpersonal trauma, including child maltreatment and intimate-partner violence, and how this relationship differs for men and women. She hopes to translate the knowledge of the dissertation into a gender-sensitive smoking cessation program for patients with co-occurring Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and substance use disorders.
