Research conducted by the Behavioral Medicine Research Group centers on improving the understanding of psychosocial factors that affect health-related conditions. The group's mission is to improve the lives of children and adults through research designed to explore the etiology and mechanisms of adverse health conditions and to develop interventions designed to prevent or mitigate the impact of these conditions.

Currently, the BMRG is examining the effectiveness of interventions that reduce symptoms, disability and health care use for children suffering from unexplained abdominal pain. The study gives health care providers and families a low-cost protocol that is easy to implement, allows children to return more quickly to their normal activities, and reduces health care costs. The group is also examining ways to increase healthy eating and physical activity among children who are at risk for obesity.
