Othello-UW Commons provides home base for School of Social Work community engagement initiatives

On Jan. 16, a new 2,200-square-foot facility known as the Othello-UW Commons opens to the public, connecting South Seattle communities with the University of Washington to promote understanding, engagement and research-based initiatives focused on addressing specific community concerns.

Noted social work researcher Matthew O. Howard, PhD and MSW alumnus, dies

Social work scholar, respected teacher and beloved mentor Matthew O. Howard died Saturday, Dec. 15, in southern Virginia, following a lengthy hospitalization. He had suffered a heart attack and several strokes in early September. He was 62 years old.
