Eligibility 

  • The Student Information Specialist application is open to current and continuing MSW students, as well as prospective MSW students who have completed an application for Summer or Fall 2024 admissions.  

  • You do not need to wait until you receive an offer of admission to apply for this graduate assistantship position, but you must be accepted into the program before moving on to the next step in the hiring process.   

  • Washington state law and University (UW) policy prohibits the UW from hiring candidates for staff and covered student employment who do not complete and sign a sexual misconduct declaration prior to their start of employment and requires the UW to conduct a sexual misconduct verification on the final candidate’s current and past postsecondary educational institution employers prior to offer of employment. If selected for the position, the successful candidate will be required to submit a signed sexual misconduct disclosure form before an official offer of employment is made.  

  • If offered a position, EDP students registered for fewer than 10 credits per quarter will need to submit a Petition for Reduced Enrollment.  If the petition is approved, EDP students may be eligible for employment.  

  • Students must maintain enrollment for Fall, Winter and Spring quarters once the positions begin.  


Duties

  • Support prospective BASW and MSW students and applicants via drop-in advising, scheduled advising appointments, phone calls, email, tabling, etc. 

  • Develop and facilitate engaging virtual and in-person prospective student events including information sessions, webinars and panels. 

  • Assist with planning and coordination of yearly Admissions events, including MSW Admitted Student Preview Days.  

  • Contribute to Admissions related communications and content, including email campaigns, social media content, videos, newsletters, flyers and website content.  

  • Participate and contribute to information sharing, knowledge building and collaboration in Admissions Unit and Recruitment Team meetings.  

  • Identify and participate in campus outreach activities and programs hosted by departments like Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, First Year Programs, The Graduate School and Office of Admissions. 

  • Identify and participate, when able, in off campus outreach events by networking with community-based organizations, high schools and institutions of higher education.  

  • Monitor and improve current and suggest new strategies and initiatives that support the mission, vision and goals of the Admissions Office.

Work Schedule and Commitment 

  • Academic Student Employees work on average, 20 hours a week and no more than 220 hours per quarter.  

  • As academic and practicum schedules allow, SIS duties may be completed primarily during the weekday and will include some evening and weekend responsibilities. 

  • With the health and safety of the the entire Admissions Team being a top priority, the SIS should be prepared to contribute to a dynamic work environment embracing both in-person and virtual collaboration.  

  • This is an academic year position (duties take place during Fall, Winter and Spring quarter), which, if applicable and upon evaluation, can be renewed for the second or third year of the student’s MSW program.

Contract and Compensation 

This position is classified as an Academic Student Employee (ASE) position and is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between the University of Washington and UAW Local 4121. This is a graduate student assistantship that includes a tuition waiver, pay, and benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.  Benefits include medical, dental and vision eligibility and coverage under the Graduate Appointee Insurance Plan. In accordance with the Academic Student Employee (ASE) contract, the SIS will be paid at the current Premaster’s RA rate. While ASE contracts are negotiated annually, note that the monthly stipend rate for the 2023-2024 academic year is $2,664.  The appointment carries a full waiver of the quarterly tuition (or for EDP students, quarterly EDP course fees), the operating fee, building fee, and technology fee. However, the selected candidate will be responsible for paying other small but required fees. All ASEs shall be provided with a reasonable amount of break time and facilities necessary for expressing breast milk for a nursing child (established lactation facilities).  The SIS does not work over the summer quarter and is not paid between mid-June and mid-September.

Timeline and Selection Process 

  1. The application is due no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 10th, 2024. All complete applications received by the due date will be considered.  
  2. Virtual interviews will take place in late March 2024. Applicants must have been accepted into the program and score highly in the application review to progress to an interview.  
  3. Depending on scheduling, availability and competitiveness of the applicant pool, interviews may also be conducted in April.  
  4. An offer will be sent in early April to the candidate who performed well on the application and in the interview.
