Building Access
The School of Social Work Building (4101 15th Ave NE Seattle WA 98105) is a public building that is accessed by staff, faculty, students and visitors. Further information about access levels and methods are listed below.
Building Hours
The SSW Building is a public building that is open during regular business hours Monday- Friday 7:30 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. and closed on Saturday & Sunday. Access to the building is via the exterior entrances (south ground floor entrance, south first floor entrance and north first floor entrance.)
Husky Cards & Exterior Entrance Access
All SSW employees and students are added for 24/7 access to the SSW Building exterior entrances with their husky cards. Once an employee is active in Workday or a student is active in UW Student Data Base (SDB), a husky card will need to be obtained at the Husky Card Office to be set up for access to the SSW Building. All SSW students are added to the Campus Automated Access System (CAAMS) Building Access system at the beginning of Fall Quarter, and new SSW employees are added for access during their first week.
A husky card has multiple uses on campus. To access the SSW building, you’ll need to have a husky card. To use your Husky Card for access to the SSW building, you will need to tap it (like an Orca card on a bus) against the black CAAMS boxes located on the ground floor south entrance and on the first-floor north entrance. The light on the box will turn green and you will have access to the building via the closest door.
Your husky card can also be used as a method of identification as well as used on public transit. For more information about usage of your husky card for transportation, please visit the
Academic Breaks
During academic breaks, the building is locked 24/7. An active husky card can be used by SSW employees and students to gain access to the building. Visitors who have business related purpose in the building can use the intercom doorbell system for access outside entrances during SSW Admin business hours.
Note: For those assigned office space in the Research Commons 254, you’ll also need to be set up with your husky card for Research Commons 254 Access. Please note this when requesting access with sswadmin@uw.edu.
Keys
Faculty, Staff and PhD Students have access to office spaces and will need to pick up keys to their spaces with SSW Admin 220A reception. All new employees must be accompanied by their supervisor or have photo ID ready prior to pick up of their keys. Each key is a $15 refundable deposit to be paid with either exact cash or a check made out to “University of Washington, School of Social Work”. Key deposits are refundable upon return of the key(s). The deposit will be forfeited if the key is lost or not returned.
SSW Building office keys are also able to unlock several other spaces. The office key assigned will unlock not only the assigned office space, but will also give access to most kitchens in the building, the hallway corridors and the 220 mailroom. Depending on which spaces an employee needs access to, there may be multiple keys depending on access needs. Please make sure to mention access needs when picking up keys.
For access to another employee’s office space, written consent must be sent to sswadmin@uw.edu via the employee.
