2025 School of Social Work Graduation Celebration

The 2025 graduation will be held Thursday, June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The program will include welcoming remarks from Dean Michael Spencer, student & faculty recognition awards, student performances, conferral of student degrees, and an inspiring presentation from our keynote speaker, Dr. Kirk “Jae” James, a clinical associate professor and director of the DSW program at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. Students: RSVP as soon as possible!

Please RSVP by April 30th at the latest (whether or not you can attend). If you are unable to attend, we will be livestreaming the event on the School of Social Work's YouTube page.

Graduating student looking to order regalia for the SSW Graduation Celebration and/or the UW Commencement?

All graduates attending commencement at Husky Stadium or a school, college or departmental ceremony for which they need cap and gown or parking, will need to fill out this form to secure attire from the University Bookstore (form does not open until May 7th).

Faculty or Staff member looking for academic attire for or to RSVP for the SSW Graduation Celebration?

Please RSVP through this form by May 26th, the sooner the better.

Borrowing academic attire from SSW: Gowns are available for all current SSW instructors (full and part-time). The School of Social Work only has the lightweight nylon, black gowns and mortar black board caps without the tassel that you may borrow at no cost if you decide to attend the School of Social Work Graduation Celebration. There are no doctoral gowns, caps, or hoods available, you will need to rent those items. Email Madeline Galbraith (madeline@uw.edu) if you would like to borrow attire. Pick up is June 9-June 12 in the SSW mailroom. Please launder after use and return to the box by June 20.

Renting attire from the Commencement Office: Academic attire can be rented through the UW Commencement website. There is a charge for renting for the SSW Graduation Ceremony, although there is no charge if you will be attending UW Commencement.  It is important that orders are placed by May 18 to ensure that the regalia arrives on time and hood colors are correct.Academic apparel will be available for pick up June 3-June 7, at the University Book Store during regular business hours.
