Behavioral Health Workforce Development Initiative

The Washington State Behavioral Health Workforce Development Initiative (WDI) supports master’s level social workers, mental health counselors, and marriage and family therapists committed to serving individuals and families with mental health and substance use challenges.

For future students interested in Community Behavioral Health and Tribal Health in Washington State, we recommend pursuing the Behavioral Health Conditional Scholarship facilitated through WSAC. You may learn about program guidelines, their application process, and more by going to their webpage: https://wsac.wa.gov/bhcs. Applications will be accepted for the BHCS from January 5th, 2026, through February 25th, 2026. Please email bhcs@wsac.wa.gov with any questions.

Specialized Student Reminders

As a WDI student in their Specialized Year, please ensure adherence to all placement requirements:

  • Attend WDI-run events – Your participation in WDI programming is essential for your professional development
  • Communicate with field faculty about your specialized practicum plans to ensure alignment with program goals
  • Check in with coordinators prior to confirming any agency placement to ensure it meets WDI requirements and learning objectives
