Admissions

Re-applicants are individuals who are looking to apply again, after having submitted an application to the UW MSW program in a previous year; this may apply to folks who were not offered admission or were offered admission but then did not enroll. There is no separate application process for re-applicants.

We encourage all prospective applicants to join us for a future MSW prospective student information session; visit our event calendar to register. Re-applicants are always welcome to meet with an adviser as well, but please note that we are not able to provide specific feedback about individual applications or essays from previous years, since admission decisions are made collaboratively by multiple faculty/admissions committee members rather than by just one person or office.

Consider these helpful tips for prospective MSW reapplicants:

  • Admission is competitive and we often do not have space for many good candidates. Some candidates may not be successful until a second, or even third try. Some candidates are not offered admission even after multiple attempts.
  • We welcome you to reapply. Reapplying is never looked at negatively, and does not impact admission chances.
  • We always encourage applicants who were not admitted to build their social service experience, grow their commitment to social justice, and hone in on their personal goals for obtaining an MSW.
  • Relevant social service experience is very important. We encourage all re-applicants to consider their experience and to gain relevant volunteer and/or work experiences to strengthen a future application if applicable. Competitive candidates bring practical experience relevant to the field of social work and clearly speak to how this experience informs their career goals and pursuit of an MSW. Please review our relevant social work & human service experience document to learn more.

Re-using application materials from a previous year:

As of May 2023, reusing materials is no longer possible due to a change in application platforms.
