Class of 2020 Graduation Celebration

Each year, celebrating the achievements of our social work graduates is a joyful and momentous occasion. In 2020, we continue this spirited tradition through a virtual event to be held Sunday, June 14, from 1:30–3 p.m.

The celebration includes the same elements that occur every year: welcoming remarks, award recognition, and distinguished keynote speaker. This year's speaker is social justice champion and Washington State Representative Tina Orwall (MSW '91). There will be opportunities for graduates to participate individually in the event through PowerPoint slides submitted in advance. During the ceremony, each graduate will be recognized individually. Graduation programs will be printed and mailed to each graduate; the program will be available online from June 11 to June 24 (10 days after the event).

Marching Order virtual platform
We realize it is impossible to fully replace the joy and pride we feel when we honor accomplishments in person, but we are excited that we can still celebrate, individually and together, through a virtual platform called Marching Order, an online program that was developed specifically to securely host virtual celebrations. Students who have registered for graduation will receive an access code at least three days before the event which they can share with friends and family.

UW Commencement
The University of Washington commencement, which also will be held virtually on Marching Order, is scheduled for Sat., Jun 13, at 1:30 p.m. We recommend that students register for both events.

Future celebrations
We continue to explore the possibility of hosting an in-person celebration later in the year or in early 2021, depending on public health guidelines. Students who have shared their contact information will be notified if a future celebration is scheduled.
