The School of Social Work supports the professional growth of all its employees. Access to online coursework and related job-skills training sharpen core competencies and makes it possible for employees to complete work-and-onboarding requirements during work hours or at flexible times convenient to employees. Online education is a valuable tool for professional growth but is particularly important during times of prolonged teleworking due to inclement weather or suspended operations.
Many online training courses are free to UW employees and range from onboarding activities for UW benefits and health-and-safety needs to Washington state required ethics courses for certain employees. Training courses with fees may include professional enrichment courses offered by POD (UW Professional & Organizational Development) or professional certifications.
The School encourages training at all levels and has created a fund to support costs for academic, research and administrative units. The School partners with each unit so that both the School and the unit share the cost to benefit the employee. To access this fund, supervisors and employees should work with their assigned SSW HR representatives to ensure that the course is appropriate for the employee’s professional growth and development and is relevant to the employee’s work activities. For questions regarding employee training opportunities, please contact your HR representative or email SSWHR@uw.edu for more information.
Below is a listing of courses by discipline and cost to assist supervisors and employees. Prior to enrolling in any course, employees should connect with their supervisors to ensure the course is proper within one’s role. Additionally, our HR team asks that once training is taken that the employee provides documentation of completion both to the supervisor and to SSWHR@uw.edu. Thank you and happy learning!
