Mockingbird Society Fall Fundraiser

October 10, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

To support their Fall Fundraiser, The Mockingbird Society is hosting a block party on October 10th from 3-6pm at The Northwest African American Museum and Jimi Hendrix Park. The family-friendly event will feature games, food trucks, live music, and arts and crafts.
The Mockingbird Society is an advocacy organization founded in 2000 by Jim Theofelis to provide meaningful opportunities for youth across Washington state to participate in the social justice effort to improve the foster care system. Their programming includes youth programs, public policy and advocacy, a youth leadership summit and more.
The event will honor the School of Social Work’s own Emiko Tajima, as one of three 2024 honorees. An associate professor at the SSW, Tajima also directs Partners for Our Children, (P4C) a research and policy advocacy center whose mission is to transform the child welfare system and create structural changes that are anti-racist and affirm all families.
Tajima is being honored for decades of service focusing on prevention and system change to improve the welfare of children and families which is deeply aligned with Mockingbird’s values. Her research, support, and steadfast belief in Mockingbird’s advocates helped make the recent win with the passing of SB 5908 Extended Foster Care possible.
Admission to the event is FREE and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase from the food trucks. (Pre-registration is requested, and we hope attendees will consider adding a tax-deductible donation to support our mission. Please note that you are NOT automatically registered for the event if you add a donation or if you RSVP to this calendar event. If you plan to attend the fundraiser, please register HERE.)
