Faculty & Staff Training Opportunities
The School of Social Work supports professional growth of all employees. Access to online coursework and related job skills trainings both sharpen professional competencies and allow employees time to complete required necessary work and onboarding requirements either during work hours or at flexible times convenient to employees. Online education is a valuable tool for professional growth at all times but is an important activity during times of prolonged teleworking due to inclement weather or suspended operations.
Online coursework varies both by time commitment and possible costs. Many courses are free to employees. They include everything from onboarding activities for UW benefits and health and safety needs to State of Washington required ethics courses for certain employees. Others have costs associated with them. These may include courses offered for professional enrichment offered by POD (UW Professional & Organizational Development) to professional certifications.
The School encourages training at all levels and does not want cost to impede professional growth. To assist in costs of courses, the School has created a fund to support costs for all units including academic & research units to administrative ones. The School would partner with each unit so that both the School and related unit would share in the cost to benefit the employee. To access this fund, supervisors and employees should work with their assigned SSWHR representatives to make sure the course is both appropriate for one’s professional growth and development while being relevant to one’s direct work activities. For further questions regarding proper trainings for staff, please contact your HR representative or email SSWHR@uw.edu for further follow up.
