On display through June 12 in the School of Social Work’s first floor gallery, a new art exhibit calledJob Fair? demonstrates the rich tradition of labor protest art. The exhibiti features the work of UW Tacoma students who took the Labor, Globalization and Art course from artist and professor Beverly Naidus.
The powerful series of graphics was created over a six-week period by students exploring their work experiences, frustrations with job hunting and larger labor issues, such as the human cost of economic globalization. In the class, the students linked their personal experiences with an introduction to poster art from the labor movement along with the basics of graphic design, digital photography and design software.
The exhibit is part of MayWorks, a month-long festival of workers’ art and culture sponsored by the Washington State Labor Council with events around the state as part of Labor History Month.
A reception will be held Wed., May 20, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery space at the School of Social Work and is open to the public.
