Six Zenbooth Solo Pro single-person booths were installed in the School of Social Work Research Commons.

September 30, 2026

The University of Washington School of Social Work is excited to announce the addition of six privacy pods to the building’s Research Commons. The Research Commons, located on the school’s second floor, features multiple conference rooms, workstations with computers, a meditation room and more.

These new privacy pods give students a quiet space to study or attend an online class or meeting. Every pod features:

  • acoustic insulation panels that dampen sound
  • a skylight
  • an adjustable sit-stand desk
  • dimmable lighting
  • built-in power outlets
  • a spacious interior (3ft 10.5in width, 3ft 5.75in length, 7ft 2.5in height)
  • an anti-fatigue, cushioned floor mat

UW students will be able to reserve these pods either in-person through an iPad affixed to the front of the unit or remotely through a page on the school’s website. Both reservation methods will launch next week.

For students learning their way around the building, this resource map may be helpful.

The privacy pods were purchased through the UW-Seattle Student Technology Fee (STF) funds, created in 1996 to expand student access to technology across UW. Funded and governed by students, STF generates over $4 million annually to support more than 100 projects and departments across the university.

Additionally, work is under way to convert the Computer Lab on the ground floor into a multi-purpose room. Services have moved to Research Commons for now. More updates to follow.
