On November 23, the University of Washington Alumni Association will present a special screening of Bad River, a critically acclaimed new documentary film narrated by Quannah ChasingHorse and Academy-Award nominee Edward Norton. The screening, and subsequent panel and reception, will be held at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House.
Bad River chronicles the efforts of the Wisconsin-based Bad River Band’s ongoing fight for sovereignty and the battle to save Lake Superior, the largest freshwater resource in America.
Michelle Johnson-Jennings, a professor at the UW School of Social Work and executive co-director of the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, appears in the film.
Stay after the screening for in-depth discussion of Indigenous water rights, Indigenous health and Native sovereignty with a panel that includes Johnson-Jennings and Bad River Director Mary Mazzio.
