PhD Student

Dasol Kang, MSW, is a researcher from Hongseong, a rural area in South Korea with a large elderly population, focusing on social isolation and participation challenges among older adults. She is particularly interested in how the intersection of individual and environmental vulnerabilities shapes social participation and ways to enhance engagement through technology, employing mixed-methods approaches. Recently, she has focused on seniors in rural areas, digital participation, and disparities in engagement. Her ultimate goal is to improve social participation and enhance the well-being of older adults by leveraging technology.

Her passion for research stems from her diverse professional background. After earning a BA in Social Science from Dankook University and a MSW from Yonsei University, she worked as a social worker at a self-sufficiency center. She went on to become a researcher at the Korea Disabled People’s Development Institute (KODDI), and as a pro-bono project manager renovating inadequate housing for low-income seniors. These experiences solidified her dedication to social engagement in later life.
