Jessie Garcia

A UW retiree, Jessie brings 26 years of experience in the UW HR Department, including her former role as the assistant vice president responsible for recruitment and employee relations for the University’s Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell campuses. Since her retirement 11 years ago, she has provided critical expertise and guidance to the UW School of Dentistry, UW School of Medicine and the UW Police Department.

In a long and productive career, she has demonstrated world-class skills in designing and delivering leadership training, developing, and implementing HR policies and plans, assisting with organizational change, and mediating workplace issues.

Outside of work, Jessie is passionate about her role as the board of directors’ president for Bailadores de Bronce, a 52-year-old nonprofit Mexican Folklorico dance group, which originated at the UW. She’s an avid playgoer and patron of the Seattle Rep and Paramount Theatre, as well as a committed runner and gardener. The Phoenix, Arizona native, earned her BA from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and moved to Seattle in 1986.
