Karen Wollemborg
Assistant Teaching Professor
Office of Field Education
MSW. Columbia University
Karen Wollemborg joined the Office of Field Education as a lecturer in 2021, after relocating to Seattle from New York City.
Wollemborg has a particular interest in increasing access to supportive mental health care for youth. As a licensed clinical social worker, she began her career providing child and adolescent outpatient mental health services. After several years in community-based work with families, Wollemborg transitioned to school-based mental health, serving both as a clinician and consultant to schools that had on-site mental health programs for students.
During her time as a clinician, Wollemborg also served as a field instructor for MSW students. Building on her interest in field education, she became a field advisor and an adjunct lecturer in the Field Education departments at Columbia School of Social Work and Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, both in New York City. She focused on student preparation for the profession, connecting academic and field experience, and acted as a liaison between students, schools and agencies.
Wollemborg received her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
