“Come As You Are” exhibit celebrates art and community
“Come As You Are,” an art exhibition from the LEAP Artist Collective, opens October 10 at the School of Social Work’s first floor gallery. The exhibit continues through December 13.
The show features more than 25 artworks created by artists from Seattle’s Downtown Emergency Service Center’s supportive housing facility at 1811 Eastlake Avenue. The facility, which opened in 2005, provides housing to formerly homeless adults with chronic alcohol-use disorders. The first of its kind in Washington state, 1811 Eastlake has received national and international recognition for its effective approach.
The exhibit’s theme revolves around the ideas of inclusion, equality and individuality, depicting the fact that we can all show up exactly as we are. All profits from art donations go to the artists.
The Life Enhancing Alcohol-management Program, or LEAP, is an ongoing collaboration between the Downtown Emergency Service Center and the Harm Reduction Research and Treatment Center, located in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington - Harborview Medical Center.
Exhibit opening reception: Join us for food and live music and meet some of the featured artists at an exhibit opening on Thurs., Oct. 10, from 5 – 7 p.m. Open to the public.
