Center for Women's Welfare
Founded to advance economic justice for women and their families, the Center for Women’s Welfare researches issues around income inequality and economic opportunity. Its core initiative, the Self-Sufficiency Standard, measures the income needed to meet basic living expenses without public or private support, addressing income disparities and promoting economic opportunity.
The Self-Sufficiency Standard, used across 45 states and encompassing over 700 family types, supports employers, policymakers, workforce agencies, and service providers by guiding higher-wage career development, enhancing career counseling, and shaping public policies for long-term self-sufficiency. CWW’s partners leverage this data to drive change, from shaping workforce training benchmarks to modeling the effects of increased tax credits on household financial adequacy. The Center for Women’s Welfare collaborates with government entities, nonprofits, and community groups to make informed decisions and enact effective policies that promote economic security for families.
