The Goldsen Institute
The Goldsen Institute, a resource hub, is dedicated to building a world where people of all ages thrive throughout their lives, focusing on the lives of older adults, their communities, and families, particularly those from vulnerable and underserved, yet resilient populations. The Institute creates and showcases cutting edge research on social determinants of health and aging, and then translates those findings into innovative practices that improve the health, well-being, and longevity of older adults and their families.
One of its hallmark research projects, Aging with Pride: National Health, Aging, and Sexuality/Gender Study (NHAS) (R01), now in its 15th year, is the first national longitudinal research project of sexual and gender diverse midlife and older adults’ health and well-being. This landmark effort demonstrates how original research can be transformed into real-world interventions that enhance the health, wellness and longevity of older adults.
To inspire significant and scalable social change, the Institute collaborates with faculty and community partners locally, nationally, and globally to share research findings, develop evidence-based tools, and innovative programs that support students and community members in discovering and sharing strengths across communities.
As thought-leaders, we work to shape ideas that influence policy that promote healthy aging and multigenerational health well-being. By fostering ongoing dialogue and challenging traditional intervention models, the Institute supports the Healthy Generations Center to create practical solutions for the urgent issues facing diverse older adults, their families and caregivers, and their communities.
The Goldsen Institute amplifies visibility and impact by driving global, national, and local recruitment, engagement, and sharing lessons learned from its innovative programs—such as Powerful Tools for Caregivers—and for information and key research initiatives emerging from Aging with Pride: The National Health, Aging, and Sexuality/Gender Study.
