Same-sex marriage has been the law of the land for nearly two years and in some states for even longer—but researchers can already detect positive health outcomes among couples who have tied the knot, a UW School of Social Work study finds.

The School of Social Work was ranked No. 1 in the world, according to a report issued this week by the Center for World University Rankings. Forty five of the University of Washington science and social science disciplines placed in the top 10.

Youth in Focus photography exhibit opens April 4 at UW School of Social Work

Youth in Focus students have shown their work at the Seattle Art Museum, Henry Art Gallery, Frye Art Gallery, Benham Gallery and the Washington State Convention Center, among other local venues. Beginning April 4 and ending May 31, these talented youth will be sharing their explorations in photography at the UW School of Social Work First Floor Gallery.

MSW student Melissa Galindo was added to this year’s Husky 100 cohort, a UW recognition program that acknowledges 100 outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines from the Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses. Students are chosen for their leadership, passion, creativity and commitment.

A new report, published in the “Journal of the Society for Social Work & Research,” examines how the UW School of Social Work, in partnership with community agencies in Southeast and Central Seattle, adopted a model youth development program—created initially by the School’s Social Development Research Group—and implemented it at the local level.
