Nancy Tran, program support supervisor in the School’s Office of Student Services, was chosen to receive the 2019 Mary Grembowski Staff Recognition Award.

Nancy has worked in Student Services for nearly six years. When the office became short-staffed last October, she stepped in to fill many new duties―from website updates to managing waitlists―and excelled at each of them. She also helped the Admissions Office redesign its website and develop the new student services canvas page, while continuing to be the lead on time schedule coordination, managing the front desk, and supervising a new program assistant.

Known for her thoughtfulness and creativity, Nancy excels in planning events and recognizing employees, and she is an active member in the Persons of Color Staff, Faculty and Students group. She continually looks for ways to support our most marginalized students in sensitive and innovative ways. Her strong can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile are much appreciated by students and co-workers alike.

“Nancy juggles so many factors, trying to accommodate everyone’s preferences and needs while also meeting important deadlines and institution policies,” said Nicole Guenther, assistant director of the BASW program, in her award nomination letter. “I really appreciate her friendly support of important logistics that keep the Bachelor’s program functioning, everything from coordinating with professors, assigning and re-assigning classrooms to facilitating last-minute changes to the time schedule, and more.”

Admissions Recruitment Coordinator Dave Morrin echoed these statements in his award nomination. “Nancy’s thoughtful contributions to the School of Social Work aren’t always widely recognized given the behind-the-scenes nature of her role,” he wrote. “Our small Admissions team particularly appreciates Nancy’s flexibility and willingness to help with questions from newly admitted students navigating their transition from applicant to incoming student. Nancy is a reliable and resourceful contributor whose positive attitude, commitment to our social work mission, and excellence and integrity in the workplace make her a great School representative and nominee for this award.”

Be sure to stop by Student Services to congratulate Nancy on her award and to add your thanks for her many outstanding contributions to the School and our students!
