Do you work with someone who has shown extraordinary commitment to social work values? Who is flexible, professional and willing to go the extra mile?  Who pitches in when an unexpected need arises?

If so, now is your chance to recognize their talents, contributions and diversity.

Each spring, the School honors a member of our community with the Mary Grembowski Staff Recognition Award, which comes with a cash prize of $500. Only staff can be nominated; faculty are not eligible. All School staff, faculty and students can submit nominations, which are due Friday, May 29.

Nominees must have worked at the School for at least six months in a half-time or more position. The nomination letter should describe in detail the nominee’s contributions to the School, which might include:

  • Commitment to social work values and embodiment of the School’s mission
  • Ability to foster a positive working relationship with members of our community
  • Ongoing positive attitude and cooperation with colleagues
  • Focus on service, whether to the School, University or larger community

The awardee, selected by a committee, will be acknowledged at the School’s end-of-year event. Please review the award guidelines and complete the nomination form

Mary Grembowski started at the School of Social Work in the 1970s, working part-time as a faculty assistant. She rose through the ranks to become director of human resources in 2002, serving in that capacity until she retired in 2014. The epitome of professionalism and loyalty, Mary was a thoughtful member of our community, serving on numerous committees and outreach programs. To recognition her many contributions, the annual staff recognition award, which started in 1993, was renamed in her honor in 2014.
